Generic Propecia

Propecia is the first and only FDA-approved pill that succeeds in successfully treating male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of head) and anterior mid-scalp area (middle front of head). Propecia is also known as Finasteride, and was originally made by the American Pharmaceutical company Merck but has since been made available by many other large pharmaceutical companies around the world and is known collectively as Generic Propecia.

DHT (dihydrotestosterone) and Hair Loss

Researchers have found that a hormone called DHT plays a key role in the development of male pattern baldness. While this hormone is essential for proper genital development in male babies, DHT levels during mature ages contribute to the shortening of the hair growth phase, ultimately thinning the hair until hair is no longer grown from the follicle. Propecia works by inhibiting DHT levels in the scalp and interrupting the natural progression of male pattern baldness.

Going bald? Here's why

Male pattern hair loss is a common condition in which men experience thinning of the hair on the scalp. Often, this results in a receding hairline and/or balding on the top of the head. This condition is thought to be caused by a combination of heredity and a particular hormone, DHT.

Again, the culprit is DHT, which contributes to shortening of the growth phase and thinning of the hair. This process leads to male pattern hair loss. These changes typically start to occur in some men in their 20s and become more common with age. Once hair loss has occurred over a long period of time, the hair may be permanently lost.

Propecia works by lowering the levels of DHT in the scalp, a major cause of male pattern hair loss.
